These nuts are native to Chile and have long been a source of protein for the Mapuche people. The nuts are toasted and eaten as a snack, they are also used to make a delicate nutty oil and a rich delicious flour.
The nuts come from Purén in the Aracuania Region about 700 kilometers south of Santiago. They are hand collected by a group of 30 Mapuche women who are supported by the city hall’s development program.
Great for snacking or dusted with Merken or drenched in Kultrun. Use them in salads, on top of sauces or mix with rice for a nutty crunch.
